Lighting scenes: change the whole home's mood with one button

A house with thirty fixtures but only two states: all on and all off. That is an accurate description of most Vietnamese homes — and the greatest waste of a good lighting system.

What is a scene?

A scene is a preset state of all the lights in a space: "Dinner" drops the base light to 30% with the dining pendant at a warm 70%; "Guests" an even 80%; "Movie" leaves only the strip behind the TV and 10% guiding light; "Late night" turns everything off except the low floor-level light. Instead of working ten switches, you touch one key — or none at all, the scene shifting automatically with the time of day.

Three levels of investment

Level one: standalone dimmers for a few key spots — dining table, living room — low cost, instant effect. Level two: a wireless system (Casambi, Zigbee) grouping lights into scenes via phone, ideal for renovations since no rewiring is needed. Level three: a central American-standard control system like Lutron — the benchmark of luxury villas and hotels worldwide — perfectly smooth dimming down to 1%, custom-designed wall keypads, integrating curtains and air conditioning. This system must be designed from the shell stage, which is why it should be considered early.

The fixtures decide how beautiful a space can be. The controls decide when it is beautiful.

Technical details worth noting

Not every LED dims well: cheap fixtures often flicker or jump in steps when dimmed. The communication protocol must also be unified from the start — mixing standards is the root of the "works sometimes" smart-home. In IDA's documents, each fixture is specified with a compatible driver and control protocol before purchase, rather than buying the fixtures first and then figuring out how to control them.

If the budget forces a choice, we advise: better to drop a few fixtures for a good control system — because thirty fixtures without scenes are still just two states, while fifteen with scenes are countless different rooms.
