REFINING AN EXISTING SCHEME

Review and refine an existing lighting scheme, improving the layout and distribution of light to better suit the architecture, intended use and everyday needs.

Which projects does it suit?

Projects with an existing lighting design that needs to be reviewed and refined to better suit the architecture, interiors or practical use.

What this gives you

  • Retain what works in the existing design and focus on the areas that need improvement.
  • Identify potential glare, insufficient light or missing focal points before implementation.
  • Use revised documentation to align discussions with the architect and implementation team.

Scope of work

Define what needs improvement

Discuss the homeowner’s concerns, how each room is used and which aspects of the project are already fixed.

Review existing documentation

Compare interior, ceiling and lighting layouts, considering light positions, sightlines, furniture and material surfaces.

Refine layout and light distribution

Recommend changes to positions, aiming, lit zones and focal points within the practical limits of the existing infrastructure.

Review everyday lighting use

Review switching groups and lighting needs at different times within the scope of the revised scheme.

Document and explain revisions

Record the changes, explain the design reasoning and clarify coordination points for the architect or implementation team.

Indicative deliverables

  • Review findings and direction for refinement.
  • Revised lighting layouts identifying changed positions and zones.
  • Aiming, grouping and coordination notes relevant to the revisions.

Design scope, deliverables, revision rounds and working sessions are defined in the service proposal. For Signature, the scope of selection on the client’s behalf is agreed with the client against the design requirements and budget.

What to prepare

  • Current architectural, interior and ceiling plans (PDF/CAD).
  • Renderings, site photographs and material information where available.
  • Project stage, programme, budget and use requirements.

Agreeing the scope

The revision scope is defined by the existing documentation and site conditions. If the project needs an entirely new concept, IDA will discuss a Premium scope.

Lighting documentation needs coordination with architecture and electrical design; the extent of changes depends on the project stage.
